Should You Follow your Head or Your Heart?
How many times have you heard, what is your heart guiding you to do?
Following your head or your heart guidance can leave you feeling confused. Has it led you in the right direction or did following your heart lead you to being hurt or harmed? Should you follow your head or your heart? Your choices can lead you to building trust in your heart, or mistrusting your heart. In this writing I hope to provide some level of guidance to help you to trust your inner heart again by healing your heart wound.
When I wrote about protection around your heart in the previous blog, I mentioned the layers of protection can range from a light protection to a fortress of protection like Fort Knox surrounding all the gold at the center of your heart. Nothing can get in or out without going through many layers of security. You can have so much protective energy around your heart that not even your own souls consciousness can reach inside to know what direction you should be going. The deep wounds and betrayals can be layers upon layers infused with fear that can create blocking energy like concrete. Are you open to healing your heart wound? Read my previous blog here: https://www.intuitivemind.org/2021/02/do-you-guard-your-heart/
Remember in my last writing, the outer most layer is the layer of love of relationships. When you have been hurt or harmed in relationships, you can follow your heart in ways intended to keep you safe. Meaning you are following the wounded aspect of your heart instead of the whole healed aspect of your heart. When being led by your wound, it often leads to more woundedness. This deserves to be repeated one more time. When you are led by the wounded part of your heart, it often leads to that wound in your heart being reopened again and again. If you experienced an abusive man then your wound may tell you that all men are abusive. Listening to the wound can potentially lead you away from a good hearted man. So in this case you followed your heart, but it did not lead you in the right direction. The same can be said if you have been wounded and abused by a woman. Are you really ready to heal your heart wound? In those cases, should you follow your head or your heart? Getting into the habit of asking yourself that same question throughout your day will help you fine tune the intuitive differences.
You second chakra and fourth chakras are intake chakras according to some teachings. Sexual energy is associated with the second chakra. Sexual energy drives the procreation of the survival of the human race. However, sexual energy can also be a deep expression of love between two people. Not always but often. You can simply have intimacy for human pleasure that has nothing to do with love. For those who experienced sexual abuse, often the abuser will state that this is how they show love. This can cause the sexual energy lines and heart expression lines to get broken, twisted and misaligned. Almost like a switch board operator plugging the lines in the wrong hole. Again, this can lead you to think that you are following your heart, but you are actually following your sexual desire. Be clear with yourself by asking yourself, I am following my heart in regards to this person or am I simply wanting to feel intimacy at this time?
There are connecting light lines between your heart chakra and sacral chakra. Your sexual sacral chakra sends impulses to the heart to enhance the magnetic field of your heart chakra. This is why intimacy can be very healing to your heart and your capacity to love. Self Love that spreads to all of your chakras enhances your ability to feel safe in all the ways you express energetically. This dynamic flow of love then awakens you to your own physical aliveness on all levels. Strengthening all of your physical impulses to know when you should follow your head or your heart!
The heart is very much in the present moment. You may ask your heart if you want that gallon of ice-cream and your heart loves, loves, loves ice-cream so says “YES” absolutely. Yet, is it your heart that is really saying leading you in that direction? Often IF you want to eat an entire gallon of ice-cream in one sitting, it is highly likely coming from a place of your wound, not the healed aspect of your heart. Your wound wants to eat to feel loved, through food. Your heart wound my want to feel loved through drugs, alcohol, exercise, or working a lot. I love my job, I love to work, my heart loves being in service! So the first steps of learning to trust that your heart is leading you in the right direction determines if it is the hurt part or the healed part that is leading you. Healing your heart wound, can eliminate the need to fill the hole in your heart with other things. Is it bad to follow your head over your heart in these situations? No, absolutely not! Learning to follow your healthy aspects of your heart is a process. Have the ice-cream, soothe your wound, each time healing that wound until it no longer needs to have that empty place inside of you filled with the delicious sweetness. Know, that it may take months, even years to come completely heal your heart into wholeness again.
Often we will follow which aspect of our heart that will help us to feel safe. Playing it safe, by remaining in a job or relationship we hate just so we can feel safe. You may say, my heart is saying I need to remain inside my house. Again, your wound can tell you to remain in your home, in your job or in your relationship to feel safe even if you are not very happy. You may also want to over care, over love and have over concern for others because your wound tells you this is how you show love. Again, it is another signal that the wound of your heart is leading you. This inner deep wound guides you to believe this is how you love, when in actuality this is how you get others to love you or to remain safe.
Healing your heart wound is the first steps to clearing the energy blocks of abuse, protections, and betrayals of the heart to get to your true heart. You can feel unsafe in your relationship, then clear the wound around past hurts in relationship and discover you are in an incredible relationship all along. You can clear the past heart hurts that was soothed by food, drugs, alcohol, sex, or work and suddenly find you no longer need those things to fill a void in your heart. Each step gets you closer to your truest heart expressions creating a stronger trusting in the guidance of your own heart to lead you in the right direction.
How do you know if you are being led by your wound or your healed heart? Often in the beginning in may not be that easy. You just might get it wrong a few times. Get back up, choose to tune in to your heart again, choose to take the risk…again, and repeat this over and over until you learn the true signals of your healthy heart. Choosing to keep your heart closed is a choice, but should not be an option. If you really want to heal your heart you must be willing to risk being hurt again and again, until you get it right.
You can intentionally open your heart chakra by imagining it is like the shutter of a camera lens. When you open the shutter of a camera, you are allowing more light to come in. When you open your heart chakra you are also allowing more light of your soul in. This also requires a cultivating practice by telling yourself several times a day to open your heart chakra. When you have layers of wounds, it will close to protect and feel safe, encourage yourself to open it and over time of repeating this action, it will remain open more consistently. A word of experiential knowledge here. Be gentle, very gentle with yourself. Opening to the light of your heart requires great tenderness if you have been hurt or harmed. Allow a little light in, wait a few days to see how your body is responding. If there is kick back, causing anxiety and tears that means, go slower. If you feel great, then repeat opening your heart to the light until it feels consistent.
Take a moment to place your hands on your heart, feeling into a time of when your heart was hurt. How does your heart feel to you. Does the energy of your own healing hands comfort your heart? Now keep your hands on your heart and intentionally open your heart chakra. Did you feel any change in your experience of the comfort of your heart? Now, imagine a time when you were in nature, in a place that allowed you to forget about the turmoil in the world in get lost in the beauty. Now, what happened to the sensation of your heart? Nature for most, is of great comfort and is very healing to your heart. Yes, I am aware that some of experienced the loss through the forces of nature, so I ask you to keep you focus on the times when you were in the beauty of nature.
In my blog on the 12 gates of your heart shared in the title Do you guard your heart, I mentioned the 3 levels of your heart. The God heart, your soul heart, and relationship heart. When trusting that your heart will guide you in the right direction, you want to drop into that deepest layer, the God of your heart layer to truly trust that inner most heart guidance.
We are in heart opening times, and you are in the middle of your heart opening journey. It will not take long at all for you to learn when your heart is truly guiding you vs your wound. Then pass this teaching on to others around you as we heal our community and world heart together!
